Project: ISD366 - Indian Power Sector
Reply to: Kari Heistad or Richard Field
Date: October 09, 2008
Geographic Interest of Development: India
Company Needs:
Indian Power Sector is going through a very crucial phase. Demand is growing exponentially as the middle class is growing. Distribution is the weakest link in the supply chain with losses as much as 50%. Lots of inefficiencies (especially at distribution level) and hence lots of opportunities lies therein.
Government of India has hence clearly intended, in its proposed scheme APDRP Phase-II, to put the entire emphasis on reduction of AT&C losses by strengthening the systems and use of IT as a tool to achieve the same. Since, the distribution of power in India is handled by mostly inefficient state level government controlled utilities, and their vision for reforms in systems can at the best be myopic; clearly understanding and acknowledging the same the utilities themselves are looking forward to consultants in Power Sector to help them rejuvenate and upgrade the complete existing systems.
The probable opportunities arising there forth are as below (but not limited to):
* End to end consulting (including supervision) for infrastructure projects.
* Quality monitoring.
* Analysis of present systems and proposals for improvements.
* Consumer Indexing, Energy Auditing and Load Forecasting.
* GIS/GPS mapping and efficient utilization of networks.
* Computerization of administrative and functional processes up to field offices level.
* ERP/MIS.
* Better Billing and Collection methods.
* CRM
